I had always read it as "his riches" thinking of wealth as we see it on earth, but not as "his riches in glory" i.e., the kingdom of heaven! The riches of heaven adds a new light, because kingdom riches far surpass the riches of this earth. God's not only trying to bless you with the riches of this planet, but also with the riches of his domain in heaven! One ounce of glory would trump the riches of this world's wealth."
